Founded by aviation maintenance and quality management professional James Simmons, Avolatus was established on the belief that lasting organizational improvement comes from combining experienced perspectives with the strengths and capabilities of the people doing the work.
That philosophy continues to guide how we approach each engagement.

Leadership
James Simmons
Founder & General Manager, Avolatus LLC
James Simmons is committed to strengthening the future of aviation through education, workforce development, technology, and industry leadership.
His initiatives include the Avolatus Foundation, supporting aviation education and workforce opportunities, and the developing Avolatus Aviation Institute, envisioned to provide A&P training in Huntsville, Alabama, high school career pathways, and continuing professional education.
He is also developing Chopper Academy, a K-12 aviation STEM initiative, and authored 15 TANGO to recognize Army Black Hawk Crew Chiefs and inspire future aviation maintainers.
James also founded Avolatus Systems LLC, a separate technology company focused on developing solutions that improve aviation operational awareness, readiness, and decision-making.
James remains an active member of the HAI Workforce Development Working Group. His industry involvement also includes Vertical Aviation International’s Industry Advisory Council and service as an FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) Representative.
Through Avolatus LLC, James is building a collaborative organization of aviation professionals dedicated to strengthening operational performance, leadership, and technical capability.
His vision is supported by more than 30 years of military and civilian aviation experience, FAA A&P certification with Inspection Authorization, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
